Emergency Warning - Millingandi Fire (Bega Valley) 18/01/13 17:03

A bush fire is burning in the Millingandi area, approximately 5 kilometres west of Merimbula, 2 kilometres west of the Merimbula bypass.

Current Situation

The fire has crossed the Princes Highway. The fire has spotted across the highway into the Bournda Nature Reserve.

The fire is currently impacting on properties around Forest Lane, Millingandi Road, Red Gum Road and Yellow Pinch Dam Road.

Emergency Alert telephone message has been issued to residents in the Wolumla Village area.

Advice

People to the north of the fire should head towards Bega along the Princes Highway.

People to the south of the fire should head towards Merimbula.

People to the south and east of Wolumla Village should leave now and move to Bega, if it is safe to do so.

BREAKING NEWS: Margaret Thatcher dies at 87

MARGARET THATCHER, Britain's first female Prime Minister has passed away at the aged of 87.

The news of her death was confirmed by her son, Sir Mark, and daughter Carol. Margaret Thatcher passed away this morning.

Lord Bell, her spokesman, said: "It is with great sadness that Mark and Carol Thatcher announced that their mother Baroness Thatcher died peacefully following a stroke this morning. A further statement will be made later."

The former Prime Minister who changed people's lives, as a true leader, known as the Iron Lady, Margaret Thatcher governed Britain from 1979 to 1990.

She will go down in history not only as Britain's first female prime minister, but as the woman who transformed Britain's economy in addition to being a formidable rival on the international stage. Her achievements were incredible, giving Britain new pride.

Lady Thatcher was the only British prime minister to leave behind a set of ideas about the role of the state which other leaders and nations strove to copy and apply.

On Twitter, current Prime Minister David Cameron says, "We've lost a great leader, a great Prime Minister and a great Briton".

The news of her death is a very sad time for the people of Britain, and the world.
