The search for a boater who went missing in waters off the Far South Coast has been suspended.

Emergency services were called to Haywards Beach, near Tilba Road, in Bermagui, on Tuesday afternoon (December 12), following reports an unmanned 8-metre boat had washed ashore.

Police, Marine Rescue, the Westpac Helicopter, Surf Lifesavers and other agencies commenced an extensive search of the water at Horseshoe Bay and the surrounding area but after three days of searching, the boater, confirmed as a 60-year-old man from Victoria, was not found.

“Despite an extensive search of the water and surrounding land, the man from Victoria was not located, and the search was suspended at 1pm Thursday (December 14),” a NSW Police Spokesperson said.

Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Marine Rescue NSW Inspector, Glenn Sullivan, said boaters along the South Coast should take extra care, especially coming into the busy summer holiday period.

“Obviously a vessel has washed up on the beach, and this highlights the importance of logging on and logging off with Marine Rescue, that way we’re able to keep an eye on you, and if you don’t return we can contact authorities straight away, and commence the search early.”

To Log On, boaters can call their Marine Rescue NSW base on VHF Channel 16 or download and use the free Marine Rescue NSW app.
